Meet George

I picked up this cute little child-sized rocker
at the Goodwill for just a few bucks.

{Sorry, no before picture}

He was a light color wood that was
all scuffed and scratched.

I painted him in the American Paint Company's
Dollar Bill - and named him George.

I love this color - it's such a pretty
bluish green {just like a dollar bill}

I took a couple photos with my daughter's
panda bear to give you an idea of size.

And since it was painted and finished in
all-natural American Paint Company
products, it is completely child-safe.

This was one of the first items that sold in
my booth but I wanted to share it with you,
since it was also one of the first items I painted
using APC products and I love how it turned out.

What do you think?

A Tribute to my Mom - on her Birthday

My sister posted a quote on Facebook the other day:

I hear a lot of people say how
they would hate to turn out
like their mother.  If I became
half the woman my mom is, I
would be so grateful.
I love you mom <3

My mom's birthday is today and with this incredibly busy
summer I have been having, I have been thinking a lot about my Mom.

You see my mom has been the inspiration behind everything.

I can not remember a time in my life when my mom
was not doing something creative.
I think she taught me to cross-stitch before I could read.

She sewed our clothes when my sisters and I were little.

This is me and my sister with our cousin.
Notice the lovely matching dresses?

And our Halloween costumes . . .
This is my little sister.

Made homemade decorated cakes for all of our birthdays.
This was for my sister's circus-themed birthday.

I loved my Barbies

She painted and made beautiful stained glass.
Now, she makes the most amazing quilts.

She was also always decorating our home,
and I used to read all her BH&G magazines.

But it was more than that.
My mom was also an entrepreneur.

She opened a gift shop in our home and earned
enough money to pay for a family vacation to
Disney one year.

She also partnered with a friend to open
a small sandwich shop in town.
It was an adorable little shop that sold
the BEST sandwiches.
I was so proud of her, but I
don't think I ever told her that.

None of these ventures made our family rich.
But that wasn't the point . . .

My mom found a way to express her
creative side and help out her family.

She wasn't afraid to take risks
and she did all this while being a
stay-at-home mom and raising her three girls.

There was always something freshly baked
and dinner on the table every night at 5.

My life is very different from my mom's
but the quote is right . . .

This is me, my mom, daughter and sister.

If I can be half the woman my mother is . . .
I would be very grateful.

Happy Birthday Mom!
I love you!

Meet Evelyn

This buffet took me forever to finish . . .
almost a year - since I worked on her a little at a time
and she needed a lot of repair and TLC.

She came with this really pretty beveled mirror and shelf.

The minute I saw her, I knew what color
she wanted to be . . .

At least I knew what color I was going
paint the outside.

The inside took me a little longer, I tried white

then used Miss Mustard Seed's Artissimo Blue
on the entire piece.  But the inside seemed too
dark to me and I wanted it to pop a little more.

Finally, I settled on a coral color for the inside.
I wish I had taken a better photo of it but the
contrast against the blue is really gorgeous.

I love the chippy finish achieved with the milk paint.

I replaced the original knobs with crystal ones
for a little added sparkle.

The buffet was available in my booth at
Cottage Crafters, where she is patiently
waiting for someone to fall in love with her,
as much as I did.  She just sold this weekend!

I named her Evelyn because
she is very stately and feminine.

Another peek of the coral inside . . .

What do you think of her?

Do you love the finish as much as I do?
